Will a New Boiler Save You Money?

Are you in need of a new boiler? It’s a stressful time because it’s not easy choosing a new one and there are so many options. There are many different factors to consider, so it requires careful thought and consideration.

The question you may be asking is whether or not a new boiler is going to save you money, and we say that in the long run, despite the initial investment, it probably will. It’s also one of the most stressful things to consider in your home because installing a new one does require a certain amount of shifting about, mess, dust and reorganising space and time around the installation itself.

Energy efficiency - how energy efficient is your current boiler?

Energy efficiency is probably the highest consideration when it comes to choosing a new boiler, as this will have an impact on both the environment and your purse. By investing in an A-grade boiler you have the potential to significantly reduce your energy bills. There are many different types of boilers out there and we’ll talk about some of those today.

Energy bills are rising - how will your boiler help you save energy?

With energy prices rising it’s important to consider the age and efficiency of your current boiler. If it’s an older model then it could be that it’s not particularly energy-efficient and it could be costing you in terms of heating bills. Also, key factors to consider are the brand of your current boiler and its age.

Don’t waste energy, conserve, so you help your purse and the environment.

New boilers are designed to be much more energy-efficient while older ones are only around 60% energy efficient. That’s a lot of energy to waste. New designs can give you at least 90 to 94% energy efficiency, so investing in a new one is definitely worth considering.

What energy rating should a good boiler have?

With a new boiler, it will need to be stated how energy efficient it is and be prominently shown so the consumer is aware of it before purchase. The rating is usually from A to G. A is around 90%. If your current boiler is providing around 60% energy efficiency right now, then you might as well be flushing money down the toilet.

If you’re paying for frequent repairs on your current boiler then that’s also adding to the cost while investing in a newer one will give you at least 15 years of efficiency, saving you money in the long term.

Different types of boilers for different needs.

There are many different types of boilers to choose from out there and we will go over these briefly without providing too onerous a list. Also, keep in mind you can always speak to us here at Bryan Morris for expert advice on the right boiler for your home.

A-rated is always the best type of boiler in terms of energy efficiency.

Boilers come in all shapes and sizes and an A-rated boiler is designed to save you on energy bills. If you do get one then you could save hundreds of pounds a year, matched by the peace of mind of a boiler which provides long-term service and comfort.

There are various boilers out there including Combi (the most well-known), Conventional and System.

Combi boilers are extremely popular and supply both hot water and  central heating. They are extremely compact, allowing space for other appliances in your kitchen as they’re usually mounted on the wall and the installation time is minimal.

Conventional boilers

These have a water storage tank and a cylinder, which means they take up more space and installation is more expensive. Hot water isn’t instant it’s preheated and stored before use.

System boilers

These come with a separate cylinder to store the hot water, and you’ll need to make sure the cylinder is well insulated so as to keep the water hot and stored safely. System boilers however are much easier to install because components for heating and hot water are stored within the boilers themselves so this makes installation easier and significantly faster.

The types of fuel a boiler uses will range from gas (the most well-known), oil, electric, and biomass.
